Ubud Hello + Masala Love

We’ve made it to Ubud, Bali!

I’m writing this from a place called The Art Cafe, sipping a glass of chilled local wine and listening to a Balinese dude play “Come Together” on an acoustic guitar.  Joe sits beside me, reading the Time magazine we picked up at the Bangalore airport, Cuba Libre half drank on the wooden table in front of us.

After a fruitless five hours at the Singapore airport arguing/pleading with the Air India staff for flight compensation due to missed connections because of the plane’s delay in Bangalore, then a two-day wait in Jakarta for our new flight to Bali (which we had to pay re-booking fees for), then a taxi and four mini-buses to Ubud, we were very happy to finally get here!

More to come on our Indo adventure, which so far has included singing and playing guitar on our guesthouse veranda with our Japanese neighbour Tony, getting lost amid the rice fields on our rented scooter, and stumbling upon an unexpected and highly disturbing cockfight outside a Balinese temple.

But first, Masala Love: A photographic ode to Indian cuisine.  Samosas, dosas, momos, curry, thalis, chapati, lassis and chai–we ate, drank, and savoured it all. India!  Damn, you know how to serve up the spice.

  1. This is definitely my idea of ‘food porn’! Nice one, Taitly. As always.
Much much love and appreciation for your all your senses soaking up these incredible adventures – especially because we get to live vicariously through you when you share them. THANK YOU!

  2. oh my my. I agree with Kate. this is the grungy food porn that i prefer to “foodnetwork” food porn. it’s more like “no reservations” food porn. not cheesey like a “man vs food” food porn. nice porn.
